Stacy: Day 5 - Everyone Deserted Me; Camino Starts Tomorrow!!!

Camino de Santiago Sep 27, 2023

Apparently, I'm the only one posting to this blog right now! I mean, my dad posted a post, but he's a journalist, not a blogger. Not that I am, either...

Anyway. Everyone said they'll post soon, but I'll believe it when I see it. I'm sorry you're not getting any quality content this trip!

Tomorrow, our Camino officially starts! Stay tuned for the 'meat' of our trip.

Found our first waymarker!!!

Today, however, we had a wonderful 9-hour trip around Porto. We walked some, drove some, and had a 45 minute boat ride on the river!

As per usual this trip, I can't seem to remember the names of ANYTHING I'm seeing. But, this city is gorgeous!

It is known for its tiled buildings, among many wonderful things. Apparently, some high-up person (in the Catholic Church?) put tiles on the outside of his building, and all the rich then wanted to follow suit. After a while everyone did it. It started around the time Portugal was doing a lot of business with China for their porcelain.

We learned that Porto was the inspiration for Harry Potter...

Had a Port tasting at the corner King (refer to the 'painting') of Portugal's once-public winery! I don't like wine, but was quite surprised that I liked these--mostly the white one, but also the tawny one.

And saw some absolutely amazing old buildings, churches, and...

Bridges

And, I saw and touched the Atlantic Ocean! I have GORE-TEX shoes waterproof). They work!!!
