Why 'The Weight of Water'?

'The Weight of Water' came to me as I was prepping for my first (and only?) Camino de Santiago in 2023. My elderly parents wanted to cross off walking 'The Way' from their bucket list, and invited my sister and me to join them. I was thrust into the world of hiking. Even though we were not carrying our worlds on our backs as many other Peregrinos ['pilgrims' in Spanish] do, we needed hydration backpacks.

As my sister is the only one who had ever done regular hiking, and I live in the same city as my parents, I needed to figure out how much weight my parents needed to become accustomed to carrying. We all needed to practice walking with the weight we would need to carry so we wouldn't become dehydrated.

That is when I learned that the weight of 3 liters of water (the size of my hydration bladder) is 6.6 pounds.

I've always been drawn to bodies of water. Water is necessary for life on Earth to exist. What could be a more perfect title for chronicling my travels?

I welcome you to join me on my adventures, and the occasional shenanigans I get into with friends and family.

My sister is the one to blame for this blog. Just before our first Girls Trip, in 2013, which we lovingly called THALAMAC, she gave us all coordinating Memo notebooks with matching pens, and instructed us to journal our journey. I decided to make a blog, and invited them to all contribute on it. It kinda stuck. Even though I absolutely abhor journaling...

Me, Myself, and I

I'm just a regular gal. I quite enjoy travelling, but honestly, I don't do it very often. I live in central Texas, USA.

I like to play video games (first person shooters, mostly), and the occasional board game with my husband and our friends. I've loved dinosaurs since I was a kid; have a small, yet successful, Etsy store; was diagnosed with Celiac Disease in November 2022 (which makes eating while traveling difficult); and my favorite color fluctuates between blue, teal, and everything in between.

HAPPY TRAVELS!!!
