Abby: Day 7; Questioning My Bravery

SA2SOS Jul 27, 2015

Today we ate breakfast for the last time at the Strater Hotel. : ( From there, after getting a sort of late start, we headed to Mesa Verde, a place I have wanted to visit since 3rd grade.( I'm going into 9th grade now!) An amazing view form the road on the way to the cliff dwellings! We explored the Spruce Tree House and the museum. Then we went to eat lunch at the Spruce Tree House Terrace, and we all got Navajo tacos. Delicious!!!! : D Then we went on our first tour, the Balcony House. I thought I would be fine on the ladders and stairs because I'm not afraid of heights, but boy was I wrong! As I started going up the ladder I noticed that my shoes were very slippery, and by the time I got half way up I was really scared. (Not to mention that my mom kept taking pictures of me which made me look down.) >: / Not a good idea. Then the view was amazing. But then we had to go up another ladder plus really step stairs with the chain that you hold on to almost completely out of reach. 8 ( I hated that part! Once we finished the tour we headed to the Ute Reservation to check out what they had made and were selling. Turns out it was pottery, jewelry, and frybread. All of us decided to get jewelry. I went for a silver beaded string with turquiose beads and a dreamcatcher with a turquiose bead in the center. I chose this for many reasons: 1 It looked very pretty. 2 I love dreamcatchers. And 3 Turquiose is a good luck charm for horseback riders, and dreamcatchers keep away bad thoughts or dreams.( I take that as a double charm and/or double protection.) ; P We then headed on our second tour, the Cliff Place, the most popular tour in the park. It was much better tha the Balcony tour, and much easier too! We learned a lot about the culture and way of life of the Ancestral Puebloans, or Anazazi as I learned in 3rd grade. All in all the work hiking to the dwellings was worht the view and information. From the tour we headed to the gift shop, bought some things, and started to drive around the Mesa Top Loop where we saw a couple of pithouse ruins and great views. Then we started back on our way to the entrance of the park. There we saw the most beautiful sunset that almost covered the whole horizon! Then we headed to our hotel after stopping by to get dinner at KFC. I got to get in the swimming pool right before it closed. I'm really tired right now, so I'm going to bed. Write more tomorrow!
